I just want to state a few basics before I get into the board-specific rules. First of all, you should know these things already, but just so nobody can claim it's allowed here, I will say them briefly: No powerplaying, God-Modding, Mind-Reading, or otherwise controlling other peoples' characters. You control your characters, others control theirs. Don't say what another character thinks/feels/does without asking permission. At least give the illusion of literacy when you post. There is a lovely spell-check button for you to use. We don't expect perfect grammar, but if you're old enough to be here legally (13), then there really is no excuse to be spelling the basic stuff wrong. Spell-check will take care of most of the petty mistakes. If you want to post with just a specific person, tag the thread title.
posting ,
When posting, follow a few basic rules. For one, everything must be in third-person and in the past-tense. I realize that everyone has their own posting preference, but if we have a bunch of people with differing styles in the same thread, it affects continuity and makes the thread hard/irritating to read. On that note, please don't center- or right-align your post. It makes it hard to read. Also, please don't blockquote your post so many times that there are like five words on each line. (I know that's just a ploy to make your post look longer.) I'm not placing a limit, but only one or two blockquotes should be sufficient. One last thing: there is no minimum post length, because quality is better than quantity. However, we do ask that you have a good two or three paragraphs of writing per post. (It's almost impossible to have a quality post when the quantity is only one or two lines, as I'm sure most people will agree.) You are by no means required to mirror, but if the person you're posting with has a large post, don't reply with a scrawny paragraph.
sizes ,
As with most forums, there are a few size limits for graphics. For signatures, we ask that they be no wider than 450 pixels (because it will stretch the board beyond that), and no more than 250 pixels high (because nobody wants to scroll for an hour to read the post below yours.) As for icons in the profile, they must be 100 x 100 or smaller. Actually, it's physically impossible to make them bigger, as 100 x 100 is default. You many have icons in your post, and I don't care if they're of your character specifically, or just something reflecting the situation they're in, but please, nothing insanely huge. I recommend a couple of icon-sized images, or a single signature-sized image, but it's up to you, as long as it doesn't stretch the board and isn't irritatingly tall.
individuality ,
All characters are different. But they can't all be multi-dimensional, nor can they all be mono-dimensional. They won't all be geniuses, nor will they all be rock-f**k stupid. Not all will be homicidally insane, nor will all be Mother-Theresa-Nice. Try to find a happy medium, if you can, and try to play a variety of characters. Don't have all kindly characters who are super-nice and quiet geniuses. Have idiot characters, have ones who are crazy, ones who are nice, and ones who are normal, everyday people. Basically, just don't have three characters who are carbon copies of each other.
major plots ,
First off, let me say that I am all for characters/members having interesting plots amongst themselves. But if the plot extends to a point where other members will be affected, or the entire board, please PM an admin or post in plotting to consult everyone. For example, if you want your character to go on a homicidal rampage and kill random people in town that aren't designated canons, don't just start jumping into random threads with an AK-47 and bombs. Ask before you start attacking people. Same thing with if your plot involves extreme weather (i.e. tornado, hurricane, blizzard, etc.) A rainstorm is no big deal, and it's fine if you say it's raining in your thread, but I'm talking about extreme weather, things that could potentially damage the town itself. Comprende?
limits ,
I won't tell you how many characters you may have, because you know your creative limits and how much time you have to dedicate to keeping the characters active. But if you start making characters that are exactly like others you made, it's probably time to not make any more. There is, however, a limit to how many canons you can have. I don't want a single person taking all of the canons, so please, if you must have more than one, no more than three. This may change based on need for canon players and your level of activity.
activity ,
Obviously, if you join this RPG, we would like you to be active. We know there will be real-life things like illness and homework that are more important than writing a post for someone, but it would be nice if you came on at least a couple times a week, and post a couple times as well. There is no set minimum. However, if you pick up a canon, you must be active. If you pick up a canon and disappear for a week without notice, the canon will be put back up for grabs, especially if they are part of a plot.
password ,
Nice try. There is no password. I didn't hide some super-secret word/phrase so deep inside the rules that you'd have to read it letter-for-letter to find the d**n thing. No, none of that. I simply ask that you read the rules laid above, and abide by them, and I take your word that you have read them. However, know this: Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse for breaking them, so if you get a warning for breaking the rules, don't whine about how you didn't know you were breaking any rules.
